Giovanni Pernice: Laura Whitmore breaks silence on investigation into former Strictly Come Dancing partner

Amanda Abbington had claimed she was subjected to a “toxic environment” and “inappropriate, nasty, nasty harassment”.

Dance professional Giovanni Pernice has been cleared of allegations he was physically aggressive towards his former dance partner Amanda Abbington by investigators following a six-month investigation.

However, the BBC also apologized to its former partner, Ms Abbington, saying it had “upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made”.

The Sherlock actress had claimed she was subjected to a “toxic environment” and “inappropriate, nasty, nasty harassment.”

A spokeswoman for Mr Pernice welcomed the review, saying he was “pleased that this six-month review found no evidence of threatening or abusive behavior from Giovanni”.

After Ms Abbington made her statements, Laura Whitmore was among a group of former Strictly stars who were invited to speak to the BBC during the investigation.

Broadcaster Bray had been partnered with Pernice on the show in 2016.

Writing on her Instagram, Ms Whitmore asked people to read the results of the BBC investigation carefully.

“I hope this helps people realize that they should not be subjected to abusive behavior in the workplace.

“Things can be misrepresented online and there is much more, but black and white, complaints have been upheld and apologies made.

“And the attacker no longer works for the channel.”

In August, the Irish presenter accused the BBC of “putting her under pressure” over her experience on Strictly Come Dance.

She said “everything is being revealed now” following concerns she previously raised about Giovanni’s “inappropriate behavior.”

She also claimed that the industry has changed for women who are “louder” and who “are now attracting people” since she became famous.

She said Irish Post: “The things I’m not going to talk to you about now, because it’s under review, all of this is coming out now, the things I tried to talk about eight years ago.

Asked if she felt like she wasn’t “listened to” when she first voiced her complaints, she replied: “Or gaslighting to make it seem normal.”

“It is a shame that this has to be expressed in such a humiliating way for the victims, as is always the case. And being the first person to talk about anything is always difficult.

Yesterday, Giovanni Pernice wrote on Instagram that “sometimes I get frustrated”, but said it was because “you care about what you do”.

The dancer said he looked forward to “continuing to do what I was born to do.”

Pernice has always denied these allegations.

In the message he said: “It’s over, it’s over, six months, seven months of this.

“Seven months of reading things every day in the newspaper and not being able to respond because I wanted to keep the criticism confidential and private, (it was) a difficult time.

“It was hard because, you know, reading stuff that wasn’t true wasn’t the most enjoyable time of my life, let’s be honest.

“But today I am happy because at the beginning, very, very serious allegations were leveled against me, but today none of these serious allegations have been sustained.

“All allegations of threatening, abusive and harassing behavior were not upheld.

“Today is a day where we can all reflect because I understand that dancing is a very difficult thing to do.”
