A silent voice against your name

The immense fame that Your name combined allowed it to become one of the best romantic animated films on the market. Overall, due to its popularity, many would choose Makoto Shinkai’s work over another in a heartbeat. From an outside perspective, this would be understandable. The film is visually stunning and the story touches the heart deeply.

The music is also music that could lose anyone in its serenity. The plot has the ability to connect with fans because of its depth and emotion. However, this is not enough to consider it better than A silent voice.

The brand A silent voice left behind

There is a lot of criticism regarding A silent voice. Some would say it’s dull while others wouldn’t find it as appealing. It also deals with real-life struggles ranging from bullying to mental health to living as a disabled person. At the same time, there are many factors that cause the overall plot to be completely drowned out, especially with Shoya Ishida’s treatment of Shouko Nishimiya.

Despite its flaws, there is still something worth noting about the story, it is and was memorable. Compared to Your name, people would be more familiar with Naoko Yamada’s film. Whether because of its flaws or the plot, the impact was greater. Visually, Makoto Shinkai’s film would be leaps and bounds ahead.

From another point of view, it would be logical that A silent voice simply has a more memorable plot. Its complexity gives it the sensation of an onion with each layer revealing something new. This doesn’t mean either is bad. It’s simply that one tells the story better than the other. More importantly, it’s about what has the most impact, and for most fans, Yamada’s film is simply the way to go.

A silent voice And Your name are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
