Police officer saves life of little boy found choking on plastic

A nine-month-old baby is OK after police say he choked on a piece of plastic, but a police officer’s quick thinking saved the baby’s life.

Body camera footage was released of the August incident at Cedar Brook Elementary School in Spring Branch ISD, a district in the greater Houston area.

School officials called Spring Branch ISD police officer Juan Pedraza to tell him the baby was choking on the plastic.

The footage shows Pedraza working on the baby for minutes, trying to dislodge the plastic from the boy’s throat.

“You know, before the days of body cameras, these things weren’t well documented, and you heard about them, but you didn’t see them, and now you can see them,” said Larry Baimbridge, of the police Spring Branch ISD. Chief.

The baby goes silent and after what seems like an eternity, he cries. Spring Branch ISD officials now praise Pedraza for his quick thinking.

“You don’t have the option to call a timeout. You don’t have the ability to pick up your phone and say, what should I do, the baby is choking. It’s best to know in advance and act immediately, because every second counts,” Baimbridge said.

Last week, the district honored Pedraza for his heroic actions.
