Kamala Harris’ husband denies slapping his ex-girlfriend in 2012

Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, has denied a report that he slapped an ex-girlfriend so hard that she turned around.

THE Daily Mail reported Wednesday that three friends anonymously said Emhoff hit the woman — who also was not identified by name — while they waited in a queue at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2012.

In a statement to Semafor, a spokesperson for Emhoff denied the allegation, saying “this information is false” and “any suggestion that he has or ever hit a woman is false.”

One of the friends reportedly told Email that the woman, a “successful New York lawyer,” called him – sobbing in a taxi – to tell him about the incident immediately after it happened. Another friend also said she found out about it shortly after.

The third friend reportedly said she learned about it in 2018, when Harris was making headlines for questioning Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh about her sexual assault allegations during a Senate hearing .

The sources said Emhoff had been drinking and thought the woman was flirting with the valet before he slapped her. They said Emhoff and the woman, who had been dating for three months, had separated after the incident.

THE Email said the friends shared photos of Emhoff and the woman together in 2012, as well as documents and communications that they believe corroborate parts of the story.

The woman herself made no comment to Email.

This report comes two months after Emhoff admitted to having an affair with a teacher at her children’s school.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some difficult times because of my actions. I took responsibility, and over the years that followed, we worked through things as a family and came out stronger on the other side,” Emhoff told CNN after the breakup.

Kerstin shared a statement of support for her ex-husband, and the two remain close as co-parents.

Emhoff, who would be the first-ever First Gentleman, built a reputation as a feminist and a “woman’s man” during Harris’ campaign to win the presidential election in just over a month.

During an interview on MSNBC on Sunday, host Jen Psaki praised Emhoff for supporting his wife.

“I’ve always been like that,” Emhoff said. “For me, it’s the right thing to do: support women. »
