Montgomery Hospital seeks  million expansion of emergency department

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A Montgomery hospital is considering a multimillion-dollar expansion of its emergency department and has applied for a Certificate of Emergency Need, according to the Health Planning and Development Agency from the state of Alabama.

Baptist Medical Center South is seeking approval to expand its existing emergency room by 30 treatment areas and renovate its registration area and waiting room. The estimated cost of the project is more than $27.5 million.

Baptist filed the application Sept. 25 and filed a supplemental brief Tuesday with more information about the project.

The agency said the hospital’s proposal would be on the agenda for the CON review committee meeting on Nov. 20 for approval or rejection.

Alabama law provides a 15-day period during which “any affected person may file comments with the agency regarding the request, whether or not it has been approved by the President and Vice President,” the agency said in a statement. This deadline is October 18.
