Participants in meeting on Afghanistan ready to help Kabul in fight against terrorism — MFA – Russian Politics and Diplomacy

MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. Participants in the sixth meeting on Afghanistan in Moscow expressed their willingness to help Kabul in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

He noted that on October 4, Moscow held consultations on Afghanistan, which were attended by special representatives and senior officials from Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan , Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Amir Khan Muttaqi, foreign minister of the Afghan interim government formed by the radical Taliban (banned in Russia), was the chief guest.

“The Moscow format of consultations is the most authoritative multilateral platform, where the countries of the region coordinate their real approaches to the problems of Afghan settlement,” the ministry noted. “During the meeting, the parties consolidated their support for the creation of Afghanistan as an independent, united and peaceful state. They expressed their willingness to assist Kabul in the fight against terrorism and trafficking of drugs,” the agency added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that participants in the consultations “expressed interest in the development of regional infrastructure projects involving Afghanistan, noted the prospects for economic and trade exchanges and cooperation in matters of investment with Kabul”.

“The parties emphasized the demand for international humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, which should not be politicized,” the department added.

He also indicated that a joint declaration was adopted at the end of the meeting.
