Meet the Influencer Who Breaks Down the Ingredients of Our Favorite Foods

If you want to know what’s in your pumpkin spice latte, ask Joey Roselli.

Roselli, also known as Joey Wellness on social media, has amassed over a million social media followings on Instagram by breaking down some of America’s favorite foods. His most popular videos show how much sugar is in popular products like a jar of Nutella, Big Mac sauce or a 2 liter bottle of Coca Cola.

In his videos, Roselli begins with the phrase “let’s see” or “how much” to help viewers visualize what a product may contain. He then reads the nutritional facts and ingredients before using measuring cups to pour the sugar into a jar. Each video has over 20 million views and sparks conversation in the comments.

Roselli, who studies nutrition at Precision Nutrition, an online school, said her goal is to raise awareness about what we consume daily.

“We see so many products, from baked goods to perishables to non-perishables, and we tend to just read the front of the label. But what’s really important is to read the back of the label,” Roselli said.

“Knowing what’s inside your food is very important because it’s going to help you visualize and realize, well, when I take this off the shelf, what exactly am I buying .What exactly am I putting in my body? Will it benefit my health?

“Start thinking of your food as nutritional value, like gas in the tank,” Roselli said.

The measurements presented by Roselli have not been verified by any of the brands shown in the video. “Good Morning America” has contacted the brands featured by Roselli for comment. Several pointed to their label for nutritional information and others did not respond.

The Coca-Cola Company said in a statement to “GMA”: “We are all about choice, both in terms of products and portions. With over 250 low sugar or no sugar drinks, in a variety of sizes…there’s something for everyone. “.

In the case of Skippy peanut butter, the brand said the proportions shown by Roselli in the video are not accurate.

Roselli said he started creating content in late 2020 on the side.

“When TikTok started blowing up, I started creating healthy recipes because I was already on my own health journey, eating healthier foods and making my own food at home while still being university,” he said.

His struggles with acne led him to document his experience by deciding to limit his consumption of alcohol, soda and snacks, he said.

Roselli said he wants people to know what’s in the foods they eat so they can take full control of their health and make healthy choices. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your food, he said.

“I still want you to have your fun foods, like your Oreo cookies, but don’t eat the whole box,” he continued.
