Newport humane society hopes to reunite lost animals with families after flood

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Smoky Mountain Humane Society has made room at its shelter, hoping to take in animals lost during Hurricane Helene and reunite them with their families.

People at the shelter said that on Monday, the animals were moved to make room for the demand caused by the disaster.

“Two vans came Monday to take our current animals to Maryland where they will be adopted,” said Sara Kenney of the humane society. “We were literally emptied of our big dogs to give us room to accommodate the animals affected by the flood.”

The humane society conducts reports and posts photos to help families find their pets.

“It’s going to be difficult if someone wants to take them back but doesn’t have a place to live. We will therefore have to develop a policy ourselves if we have to keep an animal more than three days before its arrival. can be adopted,” Kenney said.

Those looking to find or adopt lost pets can do so here.
