Nika Muhl shares inspiring message after devastating knee injury

Nika Muhl may have seen limited action during her rookie season in the WNBA with the Seattle Storm, but she was still a fan favorite.

So when it was announced that she would be going abroad, she received a lot of support and excitement from fans for the opportunity to show off her skills that have made her the ‘one of UConn’s top 15 picks.

Unfortunately, his time abroad was cut short when he debuted for Turkish club Besiktas.

In the third quarter against main rival Fenerbahce and Storm teammate Gabby Williams, Muhl fell to the hardwood with a non-contact injury and let out a blood-curdling scream as she clutched her knee.

She was stretchered off the field and it was later revealed that she suffered a torn ACL.

Although Muhl has a long recovery ahead of her, she is in good spirits and shared an inspiring message on Instagram following the devastating news.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I work hard all the time. This time will be no different,” she wrote.

“I so appreciate all the love and support – you truly make things easier on my heart. I am grateful to all the people around me who are true testaments to what belief and perseverance can accomplish after having been refused at the hoop.

“It’s just another opportunity for me to compete, this time against myself. I don’t mean to be cocky, but it’s an easy W.”

Before the injury, Muhl was making the most of his time on the field and getting off to a good start. Muhl, who was making his first start for Besiktas, had 11 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Thursday’s game took place without fans in the arena after an incident the day before. During Wednesday’s meeting between the two rivals, fans set off flares and threw them onto the field, causing players to rush back to their respective locker rooms and postpone the match.

Let’s hope Muhl makes a full and speedy recovery.
