‘He was blackmailing me’: UP woman arrested for throwing acid on man | Here’s what happened

Uttar Pradesh News: An Uttar Pradesh woman is in custody after allegedly throwing acid at a man who she claims blackmailed her and also promised to marry her.

According to NDTV According to the report, the incident took place in Aligarh, where the man and woman met at a restaurant to discuss his threats. However, in the middle of the conversation, the woman attacked him with acid. The man, identified as Vivek, suffered burns on his arm. He fled the scene before police arrived, but the woman, who is also a mother, was taken into custody. During the incident, police said the woman also suffered burns.

Speaking about the incident, she said: “He was blackmailing me and asking me for money, that’s why I threw acid on him. I didn’t marry him and I married someone else. I am divorced…he told me he would marry me but he kept threatening me,” as quoted by NDTV.

The restaurant manager mentioned that the woman told him that Vivek had been harassing and blackmailing her for years, prompting him to throw acid on her.

Sharing details of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mayank Pathak said NDTV that the man and the woman knew each other. He further noted that it would be too early to assess the woman’s claims that she was subjected to blackmail and threats, but added that the matter was currently under investigation. Furthermore, he also said that the police were making efforts to trace Vivek who had escaped from the scene.
