WhatsApp takes inspiration once again from Instagram, users will soon be able to tag and reshare statuses

Meta-owned WhatsApp frequently introduces new features to improve user experience. Recently they added some upgrades specifically for status updates. According to WhatsApp, status updates are a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, and these new features aim to make them more interactive. Users can now like others’ statuses and share any status they are tagged in.

Additionally, users can privately mention their contacts in their status updates. This allows them to ensure that close connections don’t miss important updates, with private notifications sent to tagged people.

WhatsApp also noted that these private mentions will not appear publicly on the status, providing more control and privacy to users. The ability to privately share and mention someone in a status aims to increase engagement, making it easier to highlight key updates within a close circle of friends or family.

WhatsApp has introduced a ‘like status’ feature similar to those found on other social media platforms, allowing users to express their approval with just one click. However, unlike regular likes, status likes remain private, with only the status creator being able to see them. There is no public counter, which keeps the interaction discreet.

These new features, including the ability to mention contacts privately in status updates, are being rolled out gradually around the world. Although some may not see these updates immediately, they will be available to all users soon. WhatsApp also announced plans to introduce more status-related features in the coming months, making it easier for users to connect with loved ones.
