Arne Slot confirms Alexis Mac Allister injury: Liverpool missed matches, replacements and return date

Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Liverpool midfield star Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentina international was sent off at half-time during Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on October 5, with goalkeeper Alisson also suffering a late injury.

The initial prediction indicates that Alisson could be out for a longer period, with Slot saying the Brazilian shot-stopper will be out for “a few weeks”, during his post-match press conference.

Alisson is expected to withdraw from the Brazil squad in the coming days, with Mac Allister awaiting an update on his availability to join Argentina.

Alexis Mac Allister injury update, return date

Mac Allister was able to remain on the substitutes’ bench at Selhurst Park with Dominik Szoboszlai covering the second half.

Slot was asked about the former Brighton & Hove Albion star returning to full-time duty and the Dutch manager remained tight-lipped on the injury details.

“He’s out because of an injury, but how serious it is. It’s difficult for me to judge at the moment,” he said.

“He could have kept playing, as you saw, because it didn’t happen a second before halftime, but he felt it a little too much and he said he didn’t think not that it was good to keep playing, because you never know if you want to make things worse.

“It’s a groin problem. Can he go to Argentina? Can he play there? It’s difficult for me to tell you now.”

Mac Allister also offered an update on social media, saying the problem is not serious, ahead of a possible flight to Buenos Aires.

“Great victory for the team today, these are the moments that make us stronger! I felt a slight discomfort in the match, but nothing that will stop me. Now fully focused on what awaits me. “

Alexis Mac Allister Missed matches at Liverpool, return date

Liverpool will provide an update on tests and scans for Alisson and Mac Allister in the coming days to determine their availability.

Brazil and Argentina will take part in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next week, with the Liverpool duo both being called up to their national teams.

Alisson appears almost certain to be removed from the Samba Boys roster, with major doubt over his availability for Liverpool’s first game after the international break, at home to Chelsea on October 20.

Despite Mac Allister’s confidence about joining Argentina, if he misses his chance the 25-year-old will also be a doubt for the Chelsea clash.

Who could replace Alexis Mac Allister?

Hungarian international Szoboszlai has taken Mac Allister’s place at Palace and will be the first choice to step in if the latter is sidelined.

Mac Aliister has started all seven of Liverpool’s Premier League matches so far this season, as well as both UEFA Champions League matches, with Ryan Gravenberch also in seven and Szoboszlai in six.

Curtis Jones completed 90 minutes at Selhurst Park, and he could be another option, alongside Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.
