Maryland man arrested following incident, standoff in Sweden

SWEDEN, Maine (WABI) – A Maryland man is in custody after an incident at a home in Sweden early Sunday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., Oxford County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Black Mountain Road for an aggravated domestic violence assault.

The victim managed to escape the home when police arrived and was taken to Brighton Hospital, where he is expected to be released.

Authorities say the suspect, James Godfrey Shepherd, 65, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, refused to leave the home.

Just after 5 a.m., they executed a search warrant at the home and arrested Shepherd on several charges.

He was then taken to the Oxford County Jail.
