Man arrested in Hooper Bay double homicide

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Four days after Novely Rivers and Abigail Olson were found dead in a Hooper Bay home, both women were 18 years old, Alaska State Police have made an arrest.

Shaquille Carawan, 20, of Hooper Bay, has been identified as a suspect in the women’s deaths. Carawan was arrested Saturday on charges of first and second degree murder, tampering with evidence and providing alcohol to minors in a barren community. AST said Carawan is a prime suspect in what they say was the violent murder of Rivers and Olson. Police said they found two young women dead Wednesday at a Hooper Bay home and identified them as Rivers and Olson.

Officials from the town and Native Village of Hooper Bay offered a $10,000 reward Friday to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of a suspect. Carawan was taken to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center on Saturday.

AST thanked the Hooper Bay community in a statement and said the ABI, the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, also known as the Violent Gang Task Force, the Department of Justice of Alaska and village public safety officers in several locations were all part of what the agency said they were. an in-depth investigation lasting several days.
