One dead in shooting in south Kansas City, Missouri, Wednesday evening

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One person died in a shooting in south Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said the incident happened in the 7500 block of East 85th Terrace.

Officers were called to the area at 6:28 p.m. for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, they were called to a grassy area inside an apartment complex and told someone had been shot.

Police said a young man over 15 years old was found unconscious and suffering from gunshot trauma.

Officers provided medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Authorities said preliminary information indicates there may have been a disturbance in the area involving an unknown number of people, which escalated into shots being fired and the victim being beaten.

Police have not identified a suspect and no one has been arrested.
