Kenyans opposed to Gachagua’s dismissal say he is being unfairly attacked

The majority of Kenyans opposed to the impeachment of Vice President Rigathi Gachagua said he was being unfairly attacked, according to a new poll.

The poll by Tifa Research indicates that 36 percent of those opposed to ousting the PD said an unfair attack was the main reason for their rejection.

“A wide range of reasons have been put forward by those opposing the PD’s impeachment, although few have directly addressed the many accusations made against it in the National Assembly’s impeachment motion,” the statement said. poll results released Monday.

The survey indicates that 18 percent of those opposed to the ouster said the PD’s leadership style and performance have been good.

“.. the third most common reason – that the PD and President should be allowed to complete their current term (15 percent),” the survey adds.

Data was collected October 1-4, 2024 with a sample of 1,892 people distributed across counties in proportion to population size.

There was a margin of error of +/-2.25% with interviews conducted by telephone.

According to the survey, seven percent of impeachment opponents believe Gachagua and President William Ruto should leave office.

He added that six percent said he should be given a second chance, while four percent said no clear reason had been given for his removal, and four percent said his removal would result in a national instability.

A further four percent opposed the impeachment, arguing that it has Mount Kenya’s support, while three percent said it was a sideshow distracting from key national issues.

One percent said it would make no difference to the country and two percent were unsure.
