Woman seriously injured after car-bus accident with children in Co Limerick

A major emergency operation is underway in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick, after a car and a bus carrying children were involved in a collision this afternoon.

A large number of ambulances, gardaí and two helicopters were on scene.

It is clear that a number of people were injured. A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Shannon-based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 115 was commissioned but later withdrawn.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly before 3pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a car and a bus on the R513 at Ballylanders, County. Limerick.

‘One of the occupants of the car, an adult woman, was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.’

They added: ‘All occupants of the bus were medically examined at the scene and none require immediate hospital treatment. The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place.”
