Man tries to carjack three women within hours of each other in LA

Los Angeles The police are looking for the man, they say tried to carjack three women in one day, including a woman who appeared to be getting into a car with her young children.

All three attempted carjackings occurred on November 9, within miles of each other, and each was captured on security footage. Police said 49-year-old Maurice Latorre was responsible for all the attacks.

The first happened around 10 a.m. at a gas station on North Broadway Lincoln Heights. Security footage showed a man in a black hoodie, identified by police as Latorre, leaning against the building as he apparently watched a woman pump her gas. When the woman finished refueling, the man came up to her. As she tried to get into her car, the man forced his way into the car and pushed the woman into the passenger seat. According to the LAPD, he then demanded the woman’s keys as he tried to enter the car.

The woman eventually managed to push the man out of the car and he casually walked away.

Just a few hours later, and just blocks away, police said the same man approached another woman who was walking to her car in a parking lot, along with young children. Surveillance footage showed the man grabbing the driver’s side door and trying to get into the car. On the other side of the car were another woman and two young girls. The man appeared to smash the window as the other three stormed into the car, screaming. Once again the man walked away quietly.

Just before 5 p.m. that day, a similar scene took place at another gas station on E Cesar E Chavez Avenue Boyle Heights. A woman was pumping gas when a man in a hoodie approached a woman and started talking to her. The two talked for over a minute. When the woman finished refueling, she walked around the car to get back into the driver’s seat. But as she did so, Latorre rushed into the car, pushed the door open again and pulled the woman to the ground. The two struggled off camera, before the woman was seen running back to her car.

Police described Latorre as Latino with black hair and black eyes. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds. Anyone with information about Latorre or the attempted carjacking is asked to contact police L.A.P.D.
