Goa’s Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle reached a sensational triple century to form the highest ever partnership in the history of the Ranji Trophy. Playing in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, Kauthankar (314* off 215 balls) and Bakle (300* off 269 balls) put together a huge unbeaten partnership of 606 runs for the third wicket, rewriting the record books in First-Class cricket. Kauthankar’s 314* came off just 215 balls, making it the second-fastest triple century by an Indian in first-class cricket. His innings, studded with 43 fours and four sixes, came shortly after he surpassed his previous record of 250, which he scored against Mizoram last week. His triple century was achieved in 205 balls, putting him behind only Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal, who holds the record for the fastest first-class triple century by an Indian and reached the milestone off a whopping 147 balls last season.

Bakle, on the other hand, brought up his three-hundredth off 269 deliveries, making it the third-fastest triple century in the first division by an Indian. His innings included 39 fours and two sixes and served as a solid anchor in a partnership that left the Arunachal bowlers without answers. The Kauthankar-Bakle duo’s 606-run partnership for the third wicket surpassed the previous Ranji Trophy record for the highest partnership over any wicket. It surpassed the 594-run uninterrupted partnership between Maharashtra’s Swapnil Sugale and Ankeet Bawane against Delhi in the 2016-17 season. Their record-breaking effort came off just 448 balls, taking Goa to the ninth-highest Ranji Trophy score of all time.
