Russia will reduce compensation for injured soldiers

The Russian government has decided to reduce the amount of compensation paid to soldiers injured in the invasion of the country in Ukraine.

The government made the decision Wednesday, revising compensation for injured soldiers from a lump sum of three million rubles, or about $30,200, to payouts depending on the severity of their injuries.

Under the new rules, soldiers with serious injuries will receive three million rubles, while those with moderate injuries will receive one million rubles, or about $10,080, and those with other minor injuries will receive 100,000 rubles, or about $1,000.

The Russian government has not announced how it will assess the severity of the injuries.

US media outlet Bloomberg says: “The Russian government is cutting payments to soldiers who suffered fewer injuries in the war against Ukraine as the costs of the invasion pile up.”
