Looking at the increasing passenger demand, especially during the festive season, the Indian Railways has allowed passengers to book 24 train tickets per month on the IRCTC website and app if their user ID is linked with Aadhaar, otherwise only 12 can tickets are purchased,. Until now, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) had allowed people to book six tickets per month if the account was not linked to Aadhar, and twelve if it was linked.

“To facilitate passengers, Indian Railways has decided to increase the limit for booking up to 6 tickets per month to 12 tickets with a user ID not linked to Aadhaar and the limit for booking up to 12 tickets per month to 24 tickets by a user An ID linked to Aadhaar that one of the passengers on the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Indian Railways said this will be useful for both frequent travelers and those who use the same account to book train tickets for family members.

However, to book more than 6 tickets, one passenger has to follow a special procedure and only then can a person book more than 6 tickets at once.

Know everything about booking takal tickets

Passengers should note that tatkal ticket booking can be done if a train ticket is not confirmed or during an emergency. Generally, a tatkal ticket costs more than the general tickets and you can only book them a day before the date of travel. Moreover, you should note that cancellation of confirmed tatkal tickets will not get you a refund.

As per the new guidelines of Indian Railways, a maximum of four passengers can be booked per PNR on the Tatkal e-ticket. And one passenger can book maximum four Tatkal tickets on one PNR. Booking of Tatkal AC tickets starts at 10 AM while booking of non-AC tickets starts at 11 AM.

What to do if you plan to travel with your family

If you are planning to travel a lot with your family in a month during the festive season, make sure you follow and adhere to the limits set by the IRCTC. If not, special permissions have to be granted as per IRCTC guidelines and only then can you book more tickets.
