Gary Neville fears ‘abolished’ Liverpool referee, says Klopp, but one thing MUST happen

Gary Neville doesn’t think David Coote should be sacked after an alleged video of him making X-rated comments about Liverpool and their legendary former boss-manager Jurgen Klopp went viral.

Coote is currently suspended after the video in question, believed to have been recorded several years ago, began spreading via social media on Monday.

That led to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and the Football Association (FA) launching their own investigation into the video, in which Coote was filmed with a friend – later identified as former Nottinghamshire cricketer Ben Kitt – making disparaging comments made about Scousers.

And while Neville admits to being shocked by the content of the video, he insists that Coote’s words do not suggest he has ever been prejudiced against the video. Liverpool during his term of office and that he should not lose his job as a result.

“It will bring great disappointment to David and the refereeing community,” Neville said The overlapping US. ‘He called Jurgen Klopp the c-word, which is clearly a very aggressive word. But I saw nothing in his words that told me he had influenced decisions in the wrong way, or that he was trying to persuade Liverpool.

“I hope they get through it. If there had been any suggestion that he was making decisions against Liverpool or any other club I would say he should go. He confronted a manager because he has a bad relationship with him and they had an argument.

“I actually think the worst words in the video were said by the man sitting next to him: ‘I hate Scousers’. Because that shows hatred towards a group of people, including Liverpool and Everton. David Coote himself never said those words. He’s stitched up and it’s a mess. It looks like he got drunk and let his buddy film him, which is stupid. We’ve all done crazy things when we’ve had too much to drink.”

“In employment law, it is a warning if you swear at someone. I don’t feel like it’s a dismissal or layoff. Taking him out of Liverpool’s games and giving him a final warning is what needs to be done in my opinion, in order not to lose his entire career. I don’t feel like the line has been crossed.”

Coote is banned from the game

Neville fears Coote, who was also reportedly filmed snorting a white powder in a hotel room while in charge of last summer’s European Championship, will be banned from the game forever if he is sacked for his comments.

The former Manchester United defender added: “It was very sloppy. I’m sure he will regret it for the rest of his life. But from the standpoint of canceling him, I’m not sure.

“The moment you cancel him as a referee in the Premier League, you are effectively removing him from the game. I’m not sure any organization would look at him and offer him the opportunity to join.

“It could become impossible for him to step onto Premier League grounds or referee for Liverpool again.

“We know that certain referees do not officiate at Old Trafford, Anfield or other venues because of their loyalty.

“It would be a good step if David Coote is removed from Liverpool matches.”
