A money dispute leads to pistol whipping during a home invasion in River North

A woman was injured when an acquaintance hit her in the head with a gun, which was then shot into the ceiling during a home invasion in River North Thursday morning.

About 5:10 a.m., a person who knew the 21-year-old woman entered a home in the 500 block of North State Street and the two began arguing, Chicago police said.

It was believed that the argument had started over money.

According to police, the woman was struck by a gun, causing it to lodge in the ceiling.

She suffered a blow to the head and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was in fair condition, officials said.

Police cars were seen near the Royal Sonesta hotel, but police could not confirm if the incident took place there.

No one was shot and no other injuries were reported, police said.

The attacker was not arrested.
