If you’re looking for luxury over-ears, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2ecurrently down to $249.43 (their lowest price ever), might catch your attention. These headphones are immediately quite stylish. They come in three colors – forest green, ocean blue and cloud gray – and have a chic, semi-matte finish on aluminum ear cups, with memory foam ear cushions wrapped in faux leather. They’re surprisingly comfortable, even during long listening sessions, which is great if you’re someone who often wears headphones for hours on end.

The controls are intuitive but not perfect. You have physical buttons on the right earcup and a Quick Action button on the left earcup to switch between noise-canceling modes or activate Pass-Through (essentially letting you hear your surroundings without taking off the headphones). However, if you’re hoping to use the Quick Action button to summon your voice assistant, you’ll need to remap the ANC controls via the companion app – quite a hassle, as other brands make it easier.

In the field of sound the Black and white Px7 S2e features custom 40mm dynamic drivers that deliver clear, detailed audio. And if you’re using a device that supports AptX Adaptive and has a high-resolution streaming service, you’ll enjoy even more with 24-bit audio capabilities. That said, Apple hasn’t started working on AptX yet, so iPhone users won’t get the full high-resolution experience due to codec limitations. They are effective at dampening low-frequency sounds (think aircraft engines) and dampening the chatter of a busy cafe, but they are reportedly not as powerful as something like the Bose QuietComfort 45which is cheaper at around $199 (if you’re open to the route used).

According to this PCMag judgementthe ANC adjusts in real time based on head movements, meaning you can hear slight positional shifts when you turn your head. For some it is a minor annoyance; for others it may cause discomfort due to an ear pressure effect. Battery life is decent, with up to 30 hours on a full charge. And if you’re always on the go, a quick 15-minute charge is said to give you around seven hours of playback. As for extras, you get a USB-C charging cable and a USB-C to 3.5mm cable for wired listening (no adapter is included, though, so you might have to dig one up if you need to) . The included hard case is a nice touch to protect your investment.
