Driver killed during police chase at 20th & Galena streets identified

The milwaukee county medical examiner’s office has identified the 60 year old man who was killed tuesday night in an accident in which a car was chased by the police.

Clarence Thomas Bibbins of Milwaukee, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was struck severely by a motorist traveling about 80 mph through an intersection with a stop sign, according to a medical examiner’s report.

The police chase began near North 17th and West Galena streets just after 5:40 p.m., Milwaukee police said. The chased car was taken in an armed robbery, police said.

According to the report, it ended after about three blocks. Bibbins was driving south on North 20th Street and had entered the intersection when driver police gave chase, heading west on Galena and crashing into Bibbins’ Pontiac Torrent.

Milwaukee police said they arrested the suspected driver, an 18-year-old, and a 14-year-old passenger. Both were seriously injured and hospitalized.

As of Tuesday, 59 people had died in crashes in Milwaukee this year. according to the police. Last year, 76 people died in accidents.
