Household full of lawyers? Meet the family behind the youngest to pass the bar exam in California

What did you do when you were 17?

Sophia Park, 17, of Tulare County, is now the youngest person to ever pass the bar exam in California.

And you won’t guess whose previous record she broke. Her own brothers!

KMPH has learned that it will be a household full of lawyers.

It seems they aren’t the only two in the family who wanted to become lawyers.

Two more siblings are now following in their footsteps.

Sophia’s brother Peter was the first in the family to pass the bar exam in 2023 at the age of 17 and eleven months.

Sophia slightly broke his record by a few months.

She talked about her parents and explained what it was like when Peter was waiting for his results.

“They’re very proud. But I think with my brother it was like, is he going to pass? Is he not going to pass? Because we’re not quite sure of the standard he has to achieve. So we had to film our reaction video on YouTube.”

Sophia currently works as a paralegal at the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.

She is now second in line to become a prosecutor in her family and plans to run for the Tulare County District Attorney’s office with her brother.

“We actually don’t have any lawyers in our family. So we are the first. My father is a patent attorney and my mother when we lived in Orange County. She was a Korean dessert baking teacher,” Sophia said.

Next in line? She said their younger sister Sarah.

‘She is fourteen and in her second year of law school. In August this year, she passed the baby bar exam or the first-year law student exam,” she said.

Sophia said that the youngest in the family, who is eight years old, will be next.

He has not yet started his law studies, but he is already preparing.

‘He actually wants to be a lawyer. Our office has an event every year on Halloween where kids come to dress up and trick or treat inside our office, and he dressed up as a lawyer and borrowed my older brother’s suitcase with candy in it. the suitcase.”

Four of the Park siblings are now blazing a trail as California’s youngest lawyers.

I would like to thank everyone at the Tulare County District Attorney’s office for their support of me as well as my parents and my family. I couldn’t have done it without them.

Sophia said she will be sworn in as a licensed lawyer in March 2025, after she turns 18.

Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward said in a statement that he and his office are excited to be part of Sophia and Peter’s continued success.

“Sophia’s great achievements speak for themselves, and we couldn’t be more proud as an office family,” Ward added in part.
