Woman murdered in northeast Charlotte identified

Police are on the scene of a homicide on Strive Street near Aspire Street in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 32-year-old Concord man is accused of killing a 33-year-old woman on Strive Street in northeast Charlotte.

The fatal shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Dasean Maddox is charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to court documents.

Maddox is accused of killing Jameisha Wilkes and taking her cell phone. Investigators have not released any details about what happened.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police were called to a shooting on Strive Street in northeast Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at the Ascent apartments at Mallard Creek Road just before 3:30 p.m. Police say when they arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She died on the spot. Neighbors say they heard several gunshots in the middle of the day.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time and there is no word on any arrests.

Some people living in the area say they are moving for safety reasons.

“You just don’t feel safe,” said resident Angela Benia. “You pay a lot of money and the apartments are nice, but if you don’t have security, what good is a nice apartment?”
