Friday’s highly anticipated fight between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul on Netflix won’t be a typical boxing match.

  • Start time: Friday, November 15 at 8:00 PM ET; ring walks at main events expected before 11:00 PM ET
  • Broadcast: Free for Netflix subscribers
  • Prize money purse: Paul said in August he’s “here to make $40 million and take out a legend.”
  • This is a licensed, professional contest approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.
  • The fight is scheduled for eight two-minute rounds, as opposed to the three-minute rounds common to most men’s boxing matches.
  • The fighters will not wear headgear and will wear 14-ounce gloves, as opposed to the 10-ounce gloves commonly worn by boxers weighing more than 135 pounds.
  • There will be judges who score the rankings of the fight and will make a decision if there is no knockout.

Paul and Tyson were originally scheduled to face each other on July 20, but a stomach ulcer flare-up forced Tyson to withdraw from the bout and reschedule it for Friday. This will be the first martial arts event to be streamed live on Netflix.

Tyson, the former heavyweight champion known for his knockout power, hasn’t fought professionally since 2005 and hasn’t been in the ring since November 2020, when he fought Roy Jones Jr. fought for a draw in an exhibition. At 58, there will be a 31-year age game between him and the 27-year-old YouTuber.

Paul has a professional boxing record of 10-1 with seven knockouts. He has faced multiple former MMA fighters and journeyman boxers, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury, the only boxer he has faced who is comparable in age and size.

At Wednesday’s press conference, both fighters expressed confidence that they will be successful on Friday. Tyson emphatically stated“I am not is going to lose,” while Paul predicted he would win by taking out the boxing icon.

Friday’s fight is expected to be one of the most watched boxing events in recent history, with over 60,000 attendees and a gate receipt of over $15 million, which would mark the largest boxing gate in American history outside of Las Vegas.
