South Laredo neighbors left shocked and confused

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A South Laredo neighborhood is left shocked and confused Laredo police have arrested a murder suspect who had lived in the area for two years.

It is believed that 27-year-old Michael Dean Davis Jr. caused the death of his son’s mother in Leon County after finding human remains on a property in Buffalo, Texas.

On Tuesday, November 12, Davis was believed to be armed and dangerous. Authorities waited until the suspect checked his mail to detain him while the child was safely in the home.

While inside the home, police found several guns, an armor suit and gas masks. Based on the deplorable condition of the home, additional charges of child endangerment were filed against Davis.

Today, Thursday, November 14, a neighbor in the area, Tracey Lopez, explained how she felt leading up to Davis’ capture.

Lopez said, “We started seeing a lot of officers showing up, as well as DPS, LPD, the bomb squad and a lot of vans; we didn’t know what was going on. It was a bit scary, we just started seeing weapons. We heard the way they clicked it, put on the vests and everyone started hitting the road, I thought, ‘Something’s going on.’

Currently, the child is in the custody of Child Protective Services and Davis is awaiting extradition to Leon County.
