Portland nightclub worker guilty of sexually assaulting women he met on the job

A The 31-year-old man from Beaverton was found guilty Arrived on Thursday Washington County Circuit Court of nearly two dozen counts of sexual assault and other crimes in attacks on nine women he met through his job at two Portland nightclubs.

Washington County Circuit Judge Eric Buchér found Ali Quraishi guilty of 23 charges after a seven-day trial. The charges include rape in the first degree, sodomy in the first degree and sexual abuse in the first degree.

All nine women testified at his trial. Quraishi, who previously worked as a dance manager at Portland nightclubs Silverado PDX and Stag PDX, testified in his own defense, claiming the encounters were consensual.

Quraishi met the women at the two clubs, according to a court filing by Senior Deputy District Attorney Allison Brown. They were all patrons, she said. The attacks took place from 2015 to 2023.

Police received a report of an alleged sexual assault in 2016, but the woman declined to pursue the case. In 2022, another woman came forward with allegations of abuse by Quraishi; Police identified a further eight victims during their investigation.

Brown said authorities received dozens of calls about Quraishi’s behavior after sending out a press release to possible victims early in the investigation.

Three of the nine victims sought medical treatment for injuries related to Quraishi’s attacks, Brown said. They gave consistent accounts of what the Quraishi had done to them, she said.

“He developed a reputation among the clubs as someone who would take advantage of unsuspecting women by showering them with attention and supplying them with intoxicants,” she wrote in the report. “He would then take them back to his apartment and perform various sexual acts while they were incoherent and unable to consent.”

In some cases, she wrote, the women tried to fight back “but were forced to participate in the sexual acts.” Quraishi took sexually explicit images of the victims and distributed them, she wrote.

During the investigation, police who searched Quraishi’s apartment found a 22-page typewritten list of “the defendant’s sexual conquests,” including the names of the victims in the case, the court said. Police found the apartment sparsely furnished, consistent with the victims’ accounts, the file said.

Quraishi’s sentencing is scheduled for January 6. He faces a minimum prison sentence of 25 years.
