MBI investigates fatal officer-involved shooting in McComb

MCCOMB, Miss. (WLBT) – According to Pike County Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones, a McComb police officer was involved in a shooting on Thursday.

According to Bailey Martin, of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the shooting happened near the 200 block of 25th Street in McComb.

Officers from the McComb Police Department responded to calls of a suspicious vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and two suspects exited the vehicle.

One of the suspects then pulled a gun on the officers.

The officers fired their guns, fatally wounding one suspect.

One person has been arrested.

The officers involved did not sustain serious physical injuries.

At this point in the investigation it is believed there were three or four people still in the vehicle.

They were last seen in a gray 2016 Dodge Charger, license plate PJP357. If you see this vehicle with license plate PJP357, call 911 immediately.

Officials say it is unsafe to approach the suspects. They are believed to be armed and dangerous.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.
