A suspicious nighttime visitor leads to a police investigation in Emigration Canyon

Security footage shows a stranger wandering into a homeowner’s building late Wednesday night and appearing to enter through the front door.

Justin, the homeowner who only asked for his first name, was not at the property when his phone started pinging with security camera notifications just after midnight.

“I want to think the best in people,” Justin said. “I really hope he wasn’t trying to break into the building.”

The footage shows the man opening the storm door and apparently attempting to open the front door. Justin, who was watching from a distance, confronted the man through the camera.

“Sorry, hey, what are you doing?” he asked.

The video shows the stranger then walking through the side gate and leaving the building. Justin reported that nothing was taken.

“I hope it wasn’t anything nefarious, but it’s very strange to see someone walking around there so late at night,” Justin said.

The man’s face is blurred in the footage because police have not yet identified or arrested him. However, authorities are trying to locate him.

“We don’t want to assume anything,” said Sgt. Aymee Race of the United Police. “That’s why it’s important that we talk to this person and find out why he was there and what happened.”

Race emphasized that the incident is a reminder of the importance of homeland security, especially at this time of year when people may be more opportunistic.

The police are investigating the case for trespassing. Officers have increased patrols in the area and are actively searching for the man in the hope of questioning him.
