“I would seriously consider” replacing Rubio in the Senate if asked

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Trump, said she would “seriously consider” replacing Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as he ticked to become Secretary of State.

Lara Trump joined Fox News Maria Bartiromo on Thursday, saying she was honored to be considered for the position but that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has not yet been contacted.

“I know my name is mentioned a lot, and I would say that my experience at the RNC really showed me that I serve the American people,” Lara Trump said.

“And if I were to be asked to do this now that I have to serve my home state of Florida, it would obviously be a great honor and a great responsibility, but I would like to go further and do more,” she continued.

On Wednesday, Trump chose Rubio as secretary of state, a top diplomatic role. The selection for serving Trump’s cabinet is a dramatic turnaround since the two were fierce rivals during the Republican Party’s 2016 presidential primaries.

DeSantis will now choose the replacement, who will serve until 2026, when a special election will be held for the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.

Lara Trump said she has not been contacted by DeSantis, who ran against her father-in-law in the 2024 Republican primaries, but said, “We’ll see what happens.”

She became co-chairman of the RNC in March, along with Michael Whatley.
