Goodall was uninjured after a scary crash

Reuben Goodall is feeling fine but his Super2 final is likely over after a terrifying crash during qualifying on Friday morning.

In the final minutes of Race 1 Super2 qualifying, Goodall pushed hard but found the right side wall exiting the Senna Chicane.

The impact caused the right front tire to fly off the ZB Commodore almost immediately, while the right rear brake rotor also departed.

As a result, the 21-year-old was faced with the terrifying situation of driving without brakes towards the tires at the end of Wakefield Street.

Finally, Goodall clipped the tire barrier and snuck through the gap in the escape route.

Amazingly, the entire tire barrier, catch fence and concrete wall fell down after the impact, destroying the front of the Gomersall Motorsport Commodore.

Most importantly, Goodall is doing well, but he sympathizes with his team after the ‘biggest accident’ of his career.

“That’s definitely my biggest accident to date and it was quite scary,” Goodall told AUTO ACTION.

“I’ll wake up sore tomorrow, but right now I feel ready to jump back in.

“It was a hard impact, but a testament to the safety of these cars.

“I would like to apologize to my sponsors, supporters and my team. It’s an unfortunate end to the year.

“When I hit the wall at the age of 3 and tore out the right front and right rear brake rotor, I couldn’t do anything anymore.

“The brake pedal went on for a long time and the car didn’t slow down at all.

“I gave it a few gears and I consciously didn’t want to destroy the engine as well.

“Then you have to make a decision about what you’re going to hit, because you know you’re going to hit something.

“I just went to the wall furthest away to hopefully slow the car down as much as possible and we ended up there.

“Luckily I’m OK, but the car isn’t and we’re probably done for the weekend.”

Once Goodall hit the barriers, he disappeared from view.

He admitted he was afraid of what was outside the tires, but said the car suddenly came to a stop.

“Further along I’m glad there were no marshals, but as soon as I hit that barrier the car stopped, which was great,” he said.

“I didn’t know what was behind those walls and it could have been quite scary.

“Luckily no one was injured.”

The incident is a dampener for Goodall after he started the weekend on a high following the news that he had been snapped up by Tickford to join the famous Ford team’s Super2 team in 2025.

Goodall admitted he felt comfortable in the car after finishing 10th in the combined practice times.

“Exercise 1 and 2 were pretty strong for us,” he said.

“I had quite a bit of trouble with the curb damage, these cars have overcome that very well.

“We had a decent pace in that qualifying session.

“I didn’t feel too comfortable with the car and we made some changes to take into account the arrival of the track.”
