Greenville Park will be named after former City Council Member Inez Fridley

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – One of Greenville’s parks near the Greenway will be named after a former city council member who helped create the city’s first Greenway and was actively involved in improving the quality of life in Greenville through other initiatives .

The Greenville City Council unanimously approved the renaming of River’s Edge Park on North Ash Street to Inez N. Fridley River’s Edge Park.

Fridley served as a city councilor from 1985 to 2001 and the city says she was a strong supporter of the city’s greenway system and that preserving the Tar River watershed played a crucial role in creating Green’s first greenway Springs Park to Elm Street Park.

The city also says Fridley supported the creation of the Greenville Historic Preservation Commission and the local College View Historic District. She was actively involved in numerous community organizations such as ReLeaf, Friends of Greenville Greenways (FROGGS), Greenville Noon Rotary and the Pitt County Arts Council in Emerge.
