Live updates, score, key plays

Today marks the 97th meeting between Notre Dame and the Naval Academy. Notre Dame and Navy met every season from 1927 through 2019 until the COVID-19 pandemic ended what was the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in college football and the third-longest continuous rivalry overall in the history of college football.

Today’s match marks the first time since 2019 that both teams have been ranked in the rankings. The 6-1 Irish are ranked No. 11 in the American LBM Coaches poll and the 6-0 Midshipmen debuted this week at number 24.

This rivalry is unique because of its longevity and because of the locations where the series has been set. In addition to Dublin in 2023, when the Irish won 42-3, Notre Dame and Navy have met all over the United States, including Notre Dame Stadium (38 games), Baltimore (23), Cleveland (11), Philadelphia (nine), New Jersey (seven, eight including 2024), Maryland (twice), San Diego, Orlando and Jacksonville. Navy has never hosted the Irish for an actual home game in the series.

South Bend Tribune Staff Predictions for Game 8 vs. Navy

MIKE BERARDINO: Notre Dame 35, Navy 20. The Irish have the upper hand in the battle of red zone titans.

TOM NOIE: Notre Dame 41, Navy 35 (OT): Four quarters won’t be enough to make this decision as the Irish battle back from an early deficit and reach overtime. There they provide a game-defining defensive stop and an eventual game-winning score.

AUSTIN HOUGH: Notre Dame 28, Navy 25. Respect to the Navy and its incredible start, but the Irish are the most proven team here. I think that will help in crunch time, allowing them to escape with a win.
