Cyclist taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after being hit by a truck in North Ayrshire

A cyclist has been taken to hospital with “serious injuries” after being hit by a lorry in North Ayrshire.

Police were called to the B7080, Long Drive, near the Oldhall Roundabout in Irvine, at around 3.30pm on Thursday following the crash involving a cyclist and a lorry.

The 61-year-old male cyclist was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for about eight hours while the investigation took place.

Police are now calling on anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our investigations are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have dashcam footage that could help to contact us.”
