One dead and two seriously injured Thursday in crash in Franklin County

OTTAWA, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was killed and two people were seriously injured in a crash on a Franklin County highway late Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash was reported Thursday at 4:01 p.m. on Highway K-68, about 4 miles west of Ottawa.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis was eastbound on K-68 when it began turning left (or north) onto Indiana Road.

The patrol said the driver of the Mercury failed to yield to an oncoming 2021 Hyundai Accent traveling westbound on K-68.

The patrol said the Hyundai then collided with the Mercury.

The driver of the Hyundai, Thomas R. Harmon, 38, of Pomona, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Harmon, who was alone in the car, was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Mercury, Milda M. Caleb, 83, and a passenger, Lester J. Caleb, 53, both of Ottawa, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. The patrol said both occupants of the Mercury were wearing their seat belts.
