Police say three to four militants are involved in the terror attack in Gulmarg

NEW DELHI: Three to four militants are believed to have carried out the deadly attack on an army convoy in Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing four people, including two soldiers, a senior police official said on Saturday.

The search operation, which began on the second day, was halted on Friday evening and resumed on Saturday morning, the official said.

“As per the evidence we got from it, three to four militants were involved in the attack,” Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Mohammad Zaid Malik told reporters in the northern Kashmir district.

“Police, army and paramilitary forces are carrying out the search operation, which has been extended to Baba Reshi and forest areas in Gulmarg,” the SSP said.

The SSP said security forces had conducted many input-based search operations against the militants in the Pattan-Kreeri area of ​​Baramulla district in the days leading up to the attack.

Two soldiers and two army porters were killed in the attack on Thursday, while another porter and a soldier were injured.

Terrorists opened fire on an army vehicle, 6 km from tourist hotspot Gulmarg in Bota Pathri area, when it was heading towards Nagin post in Affarwat range.

On Friday, security forces deployed drones and helicopters for a massive search operation in the area and along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulmarg sector.

Security forces also used human and technical intelligence to support the search operation launched to track down and neutralize the terrorists behind the attack, officials said.

Senior police and military officers are overseeing the operation.
