Amorim said Gyokeres can be an 'unstoppable' Prem star, with three qualities that will determine the striker's success

Viktor Gyokeres showed tremendous dedication to taking his game to the next level and is now an ‘unstoppable’ striker, according to one of Manchester United’s former team-mates.

Gyokeres played in England before his brilliant Sporting CP spell, having spent time at Brighton & Hove Albion, Swansea City and Coventry City. The centre-forward failed to make the grade at parent club Brighton, even when he was loaned out to Swansea for the first half of the 2020/21 season.

Gyokeres joined Coventry on loan in January 2021, with the deal made permanent that summer.

The Swedish ace starred for Coventry, recording 43 goals and 17 assists in 116 appearances, earning a big move to Sporting in July 2023.

Left-back Jake Bidwell, who played with Gyokeres for Swansea before reuniting with Coventry, has now explained how the 26-year-old became the top scorer he is today.

“If you had told me that in three or four years he would have been scoring goals in the Champions League I would have found it hard to believe,” Bidwell told the club. GENTLEMEN.

“He went on loan to Coventry and then signed for them permanently. All the boys have said that when he came back in the summer after signing permanently, he was a different animal.

“He had been training in the gym all summer and it was almost like he was a different man. He was young at the time and growing into himself, but most importantly, his faith grew from there.

Bidwell, who still plays for Coventry, praised Gyokeres’ speed, strength and aggression, three attributes that will help him compete in the Premier League if he leaves Sporting.

“Also with the way he plays, with his aggression, those two qualities go hand in hand with how well he has done. He suddenly realized how fast and strong he was and had the confidence to use it. Combined with the aggression it made him quite unstoppable,” he added.

Amorim is plotting a Gyokeres reunion with Man Utd

Man Utd could soon benefit from Gyokeres’ sublime ability. New manager Amorim is expected to help United in their bid to sign the player in the summer of 2025.

United have been linked with a move by Gyokeres in January to solve their goalscoring problems, but Amorim has ruled that out as a possibility.

United recently received a boost when it emerged that potential rivals for Gyokeres, Barcelona, are instead monitoring Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

The Red Devils have been tipped off involve Joshua Zirkzee in a shock player-plus-cash deal for Gyokereswho recently scored a hat-trick as Amorim’s Sporting defeated Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League.

But it remains to be seen whether United officials are happy to let Zirkzee go so quickly after spending £36.5 million on him.

Sporting held on to Gyokeres’ full €100 million release clause during the summer, deterring interested clubs.

But the Portuguese giants are now ready to sell him for around €75m (£62.5m), which is great news for United.

So far this season, Gyokeres has scored an impressive 23 goals in just 18 games.

Meanwhile, sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that United are one of the top clubs following Norwegian sensation Sverre Nypan.

The 17-year-old midfielder is set to leave Rosenborg in the summer of 2025 after refusing to sign a new contract.

United have scouted Nypan several times, although Chelsea, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are all also monitoring him.

Reports claim that Amorim is already planning his first United lineup Marcus Rashford is facing a big change.

Rashford generally likes to play as a left winger, but Amorim is willing to try him as a centre-forward.

The tactician wants to play a 3-4-3 formation, which could also see Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho ready for new roles.
