England fans comment on performances by Newcastle United duo – Interesting

England fans watched as a much-changed team won 3-0 against Greece.

Just last month, a very different England team, both in terms of personnel and performance, lost 2-1 to the same opponent at Wembley and were fortunate to lose by just one goal.

England fans certainly seemed to like what they saw as Lee Carsley made eight changes to his team that won 3-1 in Finland. Many of these changes were due to ‘injured’ players dropping out of his original squad for the November internationals.

Among the many reactions, it is especially interesting to read those about the two Newcastle United players who took the field in Athens last night.

Anthony Gordon started the match and played until the 66th minute when Lee Carsley replaced all his front three. While Lewis Hall came on a sub for the second half, his very first minutes for England.

England fans comment BBC Sports after Greece 0 England 3 and especially comments about Newcastle United couple Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon:

‘Really good performance tonight, Hall at LB has had that spot for years.’

‘Much prefer the balance in the second half with a left-footed left back!’

“Yeah, I thought Hall did a good job.”

‘Lewis Hall is so positive.

Really, with the left back position he could collect thirty to forty international matches in the coming years.’

‘Pickford’s best game in a long time. Hall at LB looked like it was his 100th cap, Gallagher and Jones had energy in the middle, Madueke and Gordon looked dangerous.”

‘Tonight we had two wingers behind them, we defended as a unit and the boy from Newcastle showed what we were missing at LB.’

‘A real left back playing for England!!!’

‘It’s crazy that we were so strong there. Pearce, Winterburn, Cole, Bridge, Baines.

It really goes in cycles sometimes.

Lewis Hall looks like an absolute diamond there. Probably Chelsea’s worst recent sale in terms of how much they will regret it.’

‘I would have been happy to see Hall at LB for the blues, but he did get a decent price of £30 million with add-ons (which probably included a call-up to England.) Good luck to the boy, I hope it he’s doing well with the Geordies. Chelsea’s youth products who did well in all competitions would have loved to see them all develop together in blue. Guehi, Tomori Livramento, CHO, Mount, Gallagher, Tammy, Solanke.’

‘Hall and Gordon play regularly on the left for Newcastle every week and now hopefully it can only be good for England.’

‘Much better balance in the side and Hall was excellent as a left back. Midfield much better without the number ten argument. Reasons to be cheerful.’

‘How refreshing to see an England team who looked like they really wanted it. Young people seemed to have the passion that carrying the three lions should bring.”

‘We should have “injured” 8 or 9 players more often. Team was a breath of fresh air compared to the stale play of players like Foden, Saka, Rice and Grealish.”

‘Madueke is going to be very good.

Be careful saka.

Bellingham and Palmer battle for 1 spot.

Gordon a shoe in.’

‘On the pitch, Anthony Gordon may not be averse to a dive or two, but when it comes to representing his country he at least doesn’t take the proverbial plunge into exaggerating injuries to get out. Do you notice the connection between the players who do? Strange that. Not. Club before country.’
