Heaven nightclub closed immediately after bouncer accused of raping drunk woman near venue

Heaven nightclub has been closed immediately after an intoxicated woman was allegedly raped by a member of the venue’s security team.

The world-famous gay club’s alcohol license was suspended for 28 days following an emergency hearing at Westminster Council on Friday.

Police called the review after a woman said she was assaulted by a bouncer in “the vicinity of the venue” on November 1, the meeting heard.

When she reported the alleged assault to other club security staff, they “allegedly ignored” her, according to police.

One man has been charged with rape.

An expedited license review revealed that detectives arrested the suspect in Heaven on November 11.

Later investigations revealed that he had not been allowed to work in Britain and may have “given a false name to his employer in order to obtain work”.

The meeting also heard that in May, three members of the venue’s security team were filmed allegedly “assaulting a customer on the street”.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said the “incidents raise serious concerns about the venue’s ability to meet its obligations to protect its customers, particularly in relation to security”.

Police added in a statement: “A licensing hearing by Westminster Council ruled that the license for Heaven nightclub on Villiers Street should be suspended for up to 28 days until a full hearing can take place.

“This takes effect immediately, meaning the heavens will not open again from tonight.

“The decision, which followed a request from the Metropolitan Police, was taken on grounds of public safety.

“The hearing heard that in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, a woman was allegedly raped by a member of security staff in the area surrounding the venue.

“Other staff then allegedly ignored her attempts to report the attack.

“A member of security staff was arrested and has since been charged with rape. He is in pre-trial detention.”
