Thompson woman charged after baby repeatedly fell to ground, RCMP say

An infant has been placed in the care of a family member after the five-month-old fell to the floor several times and was then placed in an entertainment unit, Thompson RCMP say.

Mounties went to a home in the northern Manitoba city around 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 2 after receiving a request for assistance, RCMP said in a news release Friday.

When they arrived, officers heard a loud disturbance inside and entered the home, where they found two women arguing.

Police were told the younger woman, 26, had dropped a five-month-old baby on the floor “several times,” leading to an argument with the 41-year-old, the news release said.

Officers found the baby in an entertainment unit and called emergency medical services. The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Baby released from hospital

The baby has since been released from hospital and is being cared for by a family member, RCMP said.

The 26-year-old, from Thompson, was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

She was released with a promise to appear in court in Thompson on January 28.
