2 arrested, charged in fatal shooting of 18-year-old

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in South Memphis earlier this year, police say.

On June 18, Memphis Police responded to the shooting in the 1700 block of Castalia Street, where an 18-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Regional One where he was later pronounced dead.

According to reports, there were two others with the victim, 11 and 15, who were also shot but unharmed.

On June 27, investigators determined that Edd Pickens, 19, was involved in the shooting. They say he was driving a stolen car when others with him killed the 18-year-old. Pickens was taken into custody.

He reportedly told police that he and three other people had gone to a store in Castalia, and as they left, they stopped to talk to some people they knew. Pickens said an argument broke out over someone who owed money to one of them.

As he drove away, one of the men in his car told him to turn around and stop near the people involved in the altercation. When he got there, he said the men in his car rolled down their windows and started shooting at the three people.

He told police he was driving away when he saw one of the boys fall as he ran.

Gabrien Rounds, 19, was also determined to be a suspect, but officers were not able to find him until they conducted a traffic stop on November 14. Rounds was subsequently taken into custody.

Pickens was charged with facilitating first-degree murder and theft of property valued at $2,500-$10,000. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Rounds was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. His bond has not been established.
