Shelton’s Farm Market in Niles announces closing date

NILES, Mich. (WNDU) – A beloved source of fresh, locally grown food in Niles has officially announced its last day of business.

Shelton’s Farm Market said in a Facebook post it will officially close its doors on Saturday, December 14.

Sheltons already announced in September that it would close after 77 years of service to the Michiana community and beyond. A new Aldi will take its place.

According to the report, December 14 has deep meaning for the Shelton family.

“It is the birthday of the late Miss Betty Shelton, beloved wife of Jimbo,” the message reads. “Betty was a cornerstone of Shelton’s in the early days and poured her heart and soul into building what would become Shelton’s. Her dedication and vision helped lay the foundation for everything we have accomplished, and without her we wouldn’t be here. It only feels right to honor her legacy by choosing this day to close the book on an incredible 77 years of serving this community.”

While the Shelton location on 11th Street is closing for good, the Shelton family said in September that they were optimistic about the opportunity to continue the legacy of Shelton Farms with a new location, a new look and better values.

Shelton’s says it will continue to offer new specials and close-out deals through December 14.
