Alachua man arrested for allegedly threatening to stab and run over sons

ALACHUA, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the Alachua Police Department (APD) have arrested a man who tried to stab and run over his sons, believing they had stolen from him.

Robert Jackson, 45, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a charge of aggravated assault.

According to the arrest report, Jackson became upset when he noticed a $50 bill was missing from his wallet and suspected one of his two sons had taken it.

According to officers, Jackson grabbed an 8-inch hunting knife from his bedroom and began yelling, threatening to “kill” someone if his money was not returned.

Jackson walked toward his sons, 15 and 17, with a knife in hand as the younger son hid in his room; Jackson then entered into a heated argument with the eldest son, pressing the blade of the knife against his son’s face.

His eldest son was trying to leave the house when Jackson followed him outside with a heavy metal bar that was about three feet long and weighed about 5 pounds.

Jackson then chased his eldest son up and down the road in front of their house in an attempt to hit his son with the rod.

After failing to catch him, Jackson went back inside and got the keys to the family car, a Nissan Pathfinder.

He started the vehicle, backed it out of the driveway and put it in drive, aiming at his oldest son, who was standing about 25 feet in front of him.

The car was traveling at about 20 miles per hour and was only a few feet away when his eldest son pulled out of the way.

Jackson turned around on the street and returned to where his son was standing in a neighbor’s driveway, attempting to hit him again with the car.

None of his sons suffered any injuries.

Jackson is currently being held in the Alachua County Jail without bond. He faces four charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
