17-year NBA veteran responds to LeBron James’ retirement statement

17-year NBA veteran responds to LeBron James’ retirement statement

On Wednesday night, LeBron James shocked the NBA world when he said he had one to two years left in his career before he retired. Although it’s hard to believe now, one of the greatest basketball careers of all time may soon be coming to an end.

This season, LeBron is averaging 24.3 points, 9.4 assists and 8.1 rebounds on 52/46/79 shooting from the field. Even at age 39, LeBron somehow elevated his three-point shooting to become a career high, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down anytime soon. Yet one day it will finally come.

LeBron’s announcement made waves in the NBA and got both former and current players talking. During FanDuelTV’s Run It Back show, former Clippers star Lou Williams compared LeBron’s potential retirement to his time with Kobe Bryant.

“One day he wakes up and it feels like someone stole his Space Jam basketball,” Williams said. “He’s just not going to make that move. I think back to my last season with Kobe. Kobe came into that season ready to go, ready to put together a playoff run. In the first ten games his body didn’t.” give him what he wanted him to give. It just didn’t have that step, it didn’t have that pop. His focus changed.

While LeBron is still playing like a top player in the NBA, Williams believes it will one day sneak up on LeBron. One day, there may be a change in attitude for LeBron.

“I think the same for LeBron. In a year or two, he’s going to do all the things he needs to do to be able to play, he’s going to do all the steps he needs to do to make sure he’s healthy,” Williams said. “Before you know it, the game is getting faster and faster and he’s going to feel it.”

Two years may seem far away, but it could come very quickly.
