Dave Portnoy is leaving the ‘BFFs’ podcast after Brianna Chickenfry and Zach Bryan split

Dave Portnoy announced his official departure from the ‘BFFs’ podcast amid ongoing drama coming from co-host Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia’s breakup with Zach Bryan.

The Barstool Sports founder announced the news during his guest appearance on Thursday’s episode Podcast ‘Unnamed show’telling listeners that he is walking away because “the topics don’t interest me at all.”

“They show me the subjects when I go in there. I haven’t done any research and I’m just tearing apart 18 year olds that I don’t even know,” Portnoy explains. “I don’t really like doing that. It’s a little different.”

Portnoy went on to say that the “BFFs” podcast has “definitely accomplished what I wanted to accomplish” since they originally started it.

“Josh and Bri will continue with it. It is super successful,” he clarified. “But yeah, it’s time for me to try the next thing. I had run my course with it.”

Portnoy and Josh Richards launched the popular podcast in 2020. LaPaglia joined their team in 2021 as an additional co-host.

LaPaglia also addressed Portnoy’s departure during Thursday’s episode of “BFFs,” saying the show would “definitely become a new pod” without the founder’s influence.

Portnoy previously teased his departure earlier this month, letting everyone know that his “plan” would be “done with ‘BFFs’” by the end of the year.

“Just because I’m getting older, almost fifty,” 47-year-old Portnoy said at the time. “Speaking of teen drama, a little out of my wheelhouse. So we’ve known about this for months and we’re asking ourselves, ‘What’s the best way to announce this?’”

However, those plans were quickly derailed when news of LaPaglia and Bryan’s split was announced.

During the bombshell episode, which dropped on November 7, LaPaglia opened up about her relationship with the country singer. She accused him of abuse and claimed that he offered to pay her $12 million in exchange for her silence about their split.

“I thought that was the way this ended,” Portnoy said at the time.

“I thought I’d go ahead and say, ‘Hey, I respect their decision. We’re not going to talk about the Zach thing, but I can’t be there anymore because if we want to do it, I have to talk about it.” And I woke up the next morning and it was like, ‘Fuck the money, we’re going.’

The date of Portnoy’s final episode has yet to be revealed, but he has promised to remain on the podcast for the rest of the year.

Portnoy has since taken to expressing his feelings about the “I Remember Everything” singer, calling him “Country Diddy” and the “Smallest Man.” on a few diss tracks.

“I will write 10,000 diss tracks,” Portnoy promised, showing his support for his friend and co-host in her midst “hard” break from the singer. ‘I put on the headphones. I’ll be back with spitting bars twice as hot.”

An exact date for Portnoy’s final episode of “BFFs” has yet to be revealed. However, he said he plans to stay on and co-host the podcast through the end of the year.
