CBS has set a date for the series finale of BLUE BLOODS while also announcing a special retrospective special of the show to help fans commemorate it before it ends.

After 14 seasons, BLUE BLOODS will air its final episode on Friday, December 13 at 10pm on CBS.

The finale has been a long time coming since CBS announced the show would end last fall. Although the cast has fought hard to keep it going – even taking major pay cuts so that season 14 would be feasible – and fans campaigned To keep the show alive, the network has stayed the course and brought the beloved show to an end. The show’s cancellation stemmed from financial concerns, as the Reagan family had much more story to tell.

“CBS will notice that many people are not ready to say goodbye to it yet. The show is more popular than ever, and I think numbers will increase this year with the interest. We are certainly not without ideas,” says Tom Selleck said in March. “I don’t count the days so I can do something else. I like the work. Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what? I want a job as long as they have me.”

With the show’s cancellation inevitable, the show’s creators have been working hard to make the final episodes as special as possible.

“We’ve always tried to take away another layer of the characters,” said showrunner Kevin Wade told TV Insider in August, adding that the show’s procedural nature means that “the only changes we can make are to the characters and their real fears.”

“I try to write the best stories to pit two or more Reagans against each other and eventually resolve it,” Wade continued. “And hopefully they reveal something new about themselves in the resolution.”

The show’s newly announced retrospective will continue to make the final season unforgettable and help fans reflect on the biggest moments from all 293 episodes. BLUE BLOODS: CELEBRATING A FAMILY LEGACY features new interviews with regular cast members and beloved returning guests. The special also includes a sneak peek of the series finale. The special is available from November 29.
