The Summit County Coroner’s Office has identified the young woman killed Tuesday, November 12, in a crash on Colorado Highway 9 near Breckenridge.

Marlen Zelaya Rodriguez, 18, of Silverthorne, died in the crash, Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken said in an email Thursday, Nov. 14.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. near mile marker 90 when Rodriguez lost control of the Subaru Forester she was driving north on the icy, snow-covered highway, the Colorado State Patrol said. The Subaru reportedly drove off the left edge of the road, struck a sign in the raised median, and then turned into the southbound lanes, where a Chevrolet Suburban struck the right side.

Law enforcement officials said a medical team pronounced Rodriguez dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Highway 9 was southbound closed for more than three hours after the crash, although police used alternating traffic to allow vehicles through.
